Can you have an entire home studio recording setup for just $1300?!
Well, I’m here to tell you that the answer to that question is a resounding “YES”.
Throughout my 15 year career in audio, the one constant that I never see change is people’s obsession with gear.
I have nothing against gear per se, I just have a problem when people think they need to spend money on stuff they don’t really need.
The truth is that you don’t need fancy converters…
and you definitely don’t need high-end preamps.
Expensive microphones are unnecessary.
You don’t need overpriced plugins….at all.
And you don’t need a $5,000 gaming PC to record and mix straightforward rock and metal with your home studio recording setup.
You also don’t need to spend a lot when it comes to plugins within your DAW.
As a matter of fact, you can pick up Reaper for $60 and achieve an amazing mix using nothing but Reaper’s stock plugins.

All you need is a handful of basic, functional pieces of gear to get the job done.
This has been the case since I started and it’s only gotten cheaper and easier since 2005. In this video, I list off the only gear you need to record a straightforward rock or metal band…and it’ll only cost you $1300.
You don’t need much tin your home studio recording setup to record your band.
