There’s one big problem with digital recording…it’s harsh and cold.
What you put in is what you get out.
In this way, analog recording has digital beat.
Aside from the endless disadvantages of analog recording:
– Higher cost
– Maintenance and repairs
– Higher noise floor
– Physical routing/patching (slower workflow)
– Higher power consumption (bigger studio electric bill)
– Tape degradation and loss of high frequencies..
The one area that analog DOES have digital beat is in the department of warmth and character.
By default, analog equipment will color your sound in a pleasing way.
So..
Does this mean that all of us using a basic interface and software/plugins are screwed?
Do we need to spend a bunch of money on expensive analog gear?
