Mixing templates:
Indispensable timesavers or the best way to make all of your mixes sound EXACTLY THE SAME?
Should you be using them or should you avoid them like the plague?
Some producers swear by them while others claim they’re a terrible idea. Who should you listen to??
Like many other topics in audio, it’s best to not have black and white thinking when it comes to the use of mixing templates.
As a matter of fact, my thinking on the topic of templates has flip flopped numerous times throughout the years and it took over a decade for me to come to my own conclusion.
After years of recording and mixing clients (as well as working with other engineers), I’ve come to realize templates can be used to your advantage IF you set them up for your own specific needs. It’s not about whether or not you should use them in your workflow. It’s about HOW you use templates.
If you’ve ever thought about or wondered how you can go about using mixing, this video will help you gain clarity on the (often misunderstood) topic.
