Have you ever tried compressing snare drum for fatness and punch, but weren’t exactly thrilled with the final result?
It can be a tough balance.
Too little compression and your snare can sound flat and dull.
Too much compression and you end up with a snare that’s:
Spikey..
Harsh..
Plastic-like..
And overall just poking out of the mix in a way that’s almost distracting to the listener.
The secret to pulling off a snare sound that’s both fat and punchy is much more nuanced than most people would tend to think.
There’s no one thing that will get you there.
The good news is that the few things you need to have in place couldn’t be simpler and more straightforward when compressing snare drum.
