Mixing Metal Drums And Ghost Note EQ

What’s the best way to deal with ghost note EQ?

I’m sure you’ve had this issue before:

You add a gate plugin to your snare track in an attempt to cut out all of that annoying cymbal bleed..

But you soon realize that you’re now cutting out all of the softer hits and every single GHOST NOTE that the drummer plays?

I can tell you from first-hand experience that nothing annoys a drummer more than when their ghost notes and snare dynamics get destroyed in a final mix.

They’ve (hopefully) spent countless hours perfecting their parts and it’s our job as engineers to showcase their talents properly.

Luckily, I have a dead-simple way of dealing with this annoying cymbal bleed and ghost note issue.

All you need is a simple stock EQ plugin to pull this off!
