How To Smooth Out Harsh Screaming Vocals With EQ

Harsh screaming vocals can be tricky to get right when mixing a metal production, but all you really need is a touch of EQ when mixing to smooth them out.

As metal producers and mixers, we all naturally gravitate towards auditioning out countless plugins and getting crazy with different mix tricks when it comes time to smooth out harsh screaming vocals.

Instead of overcomplicating your vocal EQ with a bunch of small boosts and cuts, the key is to focus on big moves that matter.

Even though harsh screaming vocals can be (seemingly) hard to deal with, do we necessarily need to resort to overcomplicated EQ and mix trickery in order to help them fit into the mix?

The truth is that vocal EQ (even when dealing with difficult screaming vocals) should be dead simple.

Luckily, I have one simple EQ move that can really help your harsh screaming vocal tracks when looking to get them to sit just right.

In my tutorial “How To Smooth Out Harsh Scream Vocals With EQ”, I show you one of my favorite EQ tricks for getting metal vocals to sit just right within a dense heavy mix.
