Home recording (as we know it) has been around for a very long time now. USB interfaces, Plugins, and DAW’s have been around for well over 20 years and these tools have only gotten better (and cheaper) over time…
But that begs the question:
Why haven’t home recordings themselves gotten much better over time??
The truth is that, even after more than 20 years, most home recordings STILL sound like home recordings (i.e. amateur). The tools have gotten better and better, but most of our results have NOT.
What the heck is going on??
Now don’t get me wrong, there are indeed home studio owners out there (like many of my students) who are producing pro-level results using inexpensive and even free tools, but unfortunately, this is more the exception and not the rule.
I have my own theories on why this phenomenon might be taking place and you can learn more about it in this video.
