Are real tube amps for recording overrated when it comes to metal guitars in the studio?
The never-ending debate of tube amps vs. amp sims has always existed amongst guitar players..
But does it really matter in the studio?
Some swear they can hear a difference even in a final mixed and mastered production.
Other’s say even though amp sims don’t feel exactly like tube amps, the final result is indistinguishable from the real thing (if done right).
In my new two part mini series, “Are Tube Amps For Recording Metal Guitars Overrated?”, I pull out some real world examples from some of my productions.
Can you spot which are tube amps and which are amp sims?
Check out the video and let me know if you can hear an actual difference in the comments section.
Next week I’ll be revealing which mixes feature tube amps and which ones are amp sims!
I’ll also be diving deep into each of the individual mixes to showcase any trickery that I might be using to make the amp sims sound more realistic.
In order to make amp sims work, you MUST you a solid impulse response.
