Recording Metal Drums: How I Fixed My Harsh High-End

It’s common to face many different challenges when recording metal drums.

Drum recording ain’t easy.

One thing that I struggled with constantly was the issue of uncontrollable harsh high-end from my cymbals.

More specifically, my hi hats would always wreck my mixes.

No matter what I tried, my hi hats were always unruly and unpredictable.

The dozens of different mix tricks I’d learn from scouring the internet never worked.

Luckily, after years of struggling with this issue, I found the solution to my harsh high-end  problem.

Was it better microphones for my cymbals?

Did I need better mic preamps?

Or expensive converters?

The solution to my frustrating problem had absolutely nothing to do with any of the above.

As a matter of fact, the solution to my problem didn’t even have anything to do with gear at all.

It all came down to how I was recording my drums.

Check out my latest video “Recording Metal Drums: Fixing Harsh High-End” where I go into detail on how I finally remedied the high hat issue that held my productions back for years.
