Tube amps vs. sims..which are better?
Is there an actual difference in sound quality between the two?
Can an amp sim REALLY sound as good as a properly mic’d up tube amp?
Guitar players often have strong opinions on this topic and for good reason.
Amp sims used to be terrible back in the day..
But the truth is that amp sims have come a loooong way since then.
As a matter of fact, most would argue that amp sims are just as good as the real thing these days.
Many modern pro metal and rock records feature amp sims and most people (even guitar players) have absolutely no idea 🙂
With real-world audio samples, I weigh in on the age-old debate in this video.
Do you believe an amp sim can be just as good as a tube amp or do amp sims sound like a bunch of digital crap?
Can you hear a difference between the two?
As a result of the confusion, many believe it’s usually the placebo effect at play.
Check out the video for the verdict and decide for yourself if amp sims can sound as good as the real thing.
Spoiler Alert: the trick to making an amp sim work in a a pro production is to use a good impulse response.
You can be using the top of the line Axe FX or Kemper, but if your IR is shot..
Your guitar tone will be crap.
With that being said, you can download my custom IR for absolutely free by clicking HERE.
It’s a custom IR of my favorite Mesa Boogie cab out of my studio. Load it into your favorite amp sim and get right to dialing in a killer heavy guitar tone with ease.
