I love reamping metal guitars in the studio.
It’s sometimes fun to try ridiculous recording techniques just to see what happens (like when I tried putting my drum room mic BEHIND an Ikea shelf…and now do it on every drum session I tackle!).
Well, this time around I’ll be reamping some guitar tracks through my old 90’s Crate GFX series solid-state practice amp. The practice amp of my youth.
No amp modeling.
Or guitar sims.
Absolutely no tubes in sight.
Just the solid-state bedroom practice amp I’d riff through as a highschooler.
In this video, not only will you get to hear how this cheapo amp holds up in a real production..
You’ll hear just how much mic placement can make or break your guitar tone.
Moving a microphone just half an inch can completely change your distorted guitar tone and I demonstrate this fact in my latest video. Minuscule moves in microphone placement can make a world of difference in your tone.
In this video, I’ll be reamping metal guitars through my outdated practice amp…let’s see how it turns out.
