If you’re recording and mixing heavy music, I really hope you’re recording clean DI tracks.
For one, It’s a massive safety net. You can always swap out or reamp the tone if it wasn’t captured right in the first place.
I can’t even begin to tell you about the number of times clean DI’s have saved the day for me when mixing projects featuring not-so-steller guitar tones.
Also, It makes editing 1000% easier when you can actually see the pick attack transient information in the guitar performances.
And when it comes to editing and making things sound pro, let’s put it this way:
I won’t even accept projects from clients that don’t include clean DI’s for the main guitar tracks.
No, I’m not kidding.
But with all that being said, there’s an awesome byproduct of recording DI’s with your heavy guitar tracks that I want to share with you…
I don’t hear these techniques being talked about enough on the internet and I hope they inspire you to get creative within your own productions.
