A grindy metal bass tone might be just what you need when getting your bass to sit right within a brutal mix.
Bass can be tricky to get right in any mix, let a long a dense metal production.
It’s usually just too flabby in the low-end or too thin and weak.
It can be a tough balance to get right.
The trick is to utilize techniques that add complexity and harmonics to the bass tone. Techniques that you don’t even notice when the bass is played back within the context of the mix.
Sometimes the answer lies in effects that aren’t normally associated with bass guitar mixing.
Effects like chorus and flanger aren’t usually what come to mind when mixing bass..
But they can be really useful tools.
Here’s my favorite trick for creating a grindy metal bass tone without having to make things clompicated.
The technique does not require you to add any extra distortion or mess around with complicated EQ and compression techniques.
Also, I wan’t you to achieve solid metal guitar tones to help accompany your killer bass tones.
