In my opinion, that lofi radio vocal effect is one of the most useful tools to fall back on when digging into a pro-level vocal mix.
Adding dynamics and interest to your vocal productions can sometimes be daunting, but there are a few key techniques I always return to and that classic lofi radio vocal sound is definitely one of them.
Sometimes an upfront vocal just doesn’t work right within a specific section of a song.
When reverb isn’t the answer…
Delay is sounding too messy..
Chorus/flange is too extreme..
That lofi radio vocal effect is often the way to go (listen to those classic Deftones records!)
The cool thing is that it doesn’t require any fancy trickery or expense plugins to pull off.
All you need is an EQ, compressor and simple amp sim within your daw.
Even your stock plugins will get the job done without a hitch.
