It’s true, most people don’t really understand what mastering actually is:
The veeery final 8% of polish (if that) on your production.
Are you having trouble getting your “master” loud enough?
Do you plan on saving your mix by making it sound huge in mastering with a stereo widener?
Are you unhappy with your kick drum sound and plan on fixing it in mastering?
Unfortunately, I still hear of home studio owners looking to fix MIX-RELATED issues like the ones I’ve listed above in the mastering stage.
Bad idea. All of these issues should have been dealt with in the mix…not the master.
