Having trouble when it comes time to dial in tom EQ in your drum mix?
Toms can be tricky and introduce all types of cymbal bleed issues if over-processed in the mix.
It usually just takes a touch of tasteful EQ to get them sitting right within the mix.
I’ve seen all types of overly-complex techniques for tom mixing.
I find the opposite approach to be the most effective. The simpler, the better.
For me, it’s more about what you take away than what you add as far as EQ goes on your toms.
Remember, the sound you’re looking for usually exists in the source..
You just gotta dig it out.
Instead of going crazy with crazy boosts on your tom tracks, try some tasteful subtractive EQ.
If you own a DAW..

An EQ (any stock EQ plugin will get the job done)
You have everything you’ll ever need to dial in your tom EQ like a pro.
