3 Tips for WIDER Mixes

When it comes to hard hitting metal/rock production…who DOESN’T want to produce wider mixes?

There are a lot of myths out there that people tend to believe when it comes to achieving those wide sounding mixes that we all desire..

Some tout the importance of analog summing for width.

Others try to sell you on the idea of using overly complex stereo wideners and MS processing to get your mixes wider.

Believe me, I’ve tried it all and was usually left disappointed with my results.

No matter what fancy piece of gear I’d use…or overcomplicated technique I’d implement…

I was never happy with the “size” of my mix.

When I made one thing sound bigger, it would mask something else.

When I found a technique that would work, it would only work in very specific situations (far from ideal).

Like many other things in audio production, less is usually more.

It took years for me to realize the best (and easiest) way achieve wider, bigger sounding mixes:

Getting your mix wide at the source.

In my latest tutorial, I reveal my 3 simple steps to achieving wide mixes on a regular basis.

No matter what DAW and plugins you’re using, these 3 tips will help you achieve the width you’re looking for.
